Andre Villas-Boas became the fifth managerial casualty of the Premier League season yesterday and the hunt for his successor at White Hart Lane is under way.
The former Chelsea boss paid the price for the second heavy defeat to a top four rival in three weeks, as his side crashed to a humiliating 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
Villas-Boas failed to get the best out of his summer signings, which cost a combined total of over £110 million.
Tottenham currently occupy seventh place in the Premier League and are just five points off the top four.
However it is the performances and the manner of the recent defeats which have convinced chairman Daniel Levy to part company with the Portuguese coach after just 17 months in charge.
Speculation has already begun on who is next to step into the Tottenham managerial hotseat and some candidates have already ruled themselves out of the running.
Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup was one of the first to be linked to the vacant post but Metro reports how the Dane has distanced himself from the rumours.
“Michael Laudrup is very happy at Swansea,” said his agent Bayram Tutumlu.
“It is a good club and he wants to stay at Swansea.”
With that in mind, we take a look at five realistic candidates to replace Andre Villas-Boas as Tottenham manager.
