Arsenal fans were left celebrating long into Saturday night in the Football Transfer Tavern, after seeing their team scrape past Wigan Athletic to make the FA Cup Final.
It was far from straightforward from Arsene Wenger’s side, who needed a late equaliser from Per Mertesacker and a penalty shootout to see off their plucky Championship opponents.
Lukasz Fabianski was the penalty shootout hero, saving from Gary Caldwell and Jack Collison, to set up an FA Cup Final showdown with Hull City in five weeks time after the Tigers eventually defeated Sheffield United on Sunday.
If Arsenal fans thought Saturday’s semi-final was a nervy experience, then the final is going to be a different matter entirely.
The Gunners have fallen off the pace in the title race, and find their top four position under serious threat from Everton.
The added fact they have not won a trophy for nine years, means they head into the final under severe pressure to not only save their season, but perhaps Arsene Wenger’s job as well.
Saturday’s semi-final with Wigan did little to reassure Gunners supporters that it will be a straightforward occasion, but you can’t deny the fact they will head into the game being overwhelming favourites.
So to try and calm those nerves a little, we have come up with five reasons why Arsenal will end the season as FA Cup winners.
