Brendan Rodgers can look back at his first season in the Liverpool hot seat and describe it as a campaign of steady progress.
The Reds never really recovered from a difficult start to the season, which saw them face Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United in quick succession, and meant Rodgers side only managed to pick up two victories in their opening seven Premier League fixtures.
As the Liverpool manager predicted, the second half of the season proved much better. It seemed the ideas and philosophy that had been so much talked about were starting to pay off, as well as the fact Luis Suarez was no longer the single attacking threat at the club following the signings of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho.
Rodgers has spoken of learning a lot from his first campaign, and ‘putting the foundations in place’ for an assault on the top four next year.
Should he spend wisely during this transfer window in the same way he did in January, there is no reason why Liverpool can’t challenge for those highly coveted Champions League places next season.
