5 reasons why Tottenham still aren’t genuine title contenders

Spurs still can’t win six pointersTottenham Hotspur have had a good start to the season, there is no denying that. We in the Football Transfer Tavern think that they are more than on their way to establishing themselves as contenders for a top four position.

That being said, the title may still be a while off. Andre Villas-Boas and his squad have a habit of bottling it when it comes to the end of the season. Former seasons had looked so rosy, but in the end it was not to be. Dodgy lasagne and ending up red faced after forgetting to mind the gap have been just two of the problems faced by the North London club in the past.

Frankly, to finish in the top four would be an achievement and the club need to walk before they try and run. The likes of Manchester City and Chelsea are looking strong and Manchester United may be struggling now, but they always seem to come good eventually. Add to this Arsenal and their resurgence and the title race looks set to be more enthralling than ever.

Whilst our landlord notes that we would be fools to count Spurs out of the title race categorically, there are more than a couple of niggling concerns fans of the club have. Over a game of pool our punters sit down and confess the five reasons they think prevent Spurs from being considered genuine title contenders this season. After all their manager AVB even admitted they weren’t a few weeks back!
