The Reds 5-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield has raised expectations, with many considering Brendan Rodgers side as the dark horses in the Premier League title race.
A win at Craven Cottage over Fulham tonight would take the Reds just four points behind current league leaders Chelsea.
Rodgers insists the Reds are not thinking about winning the title this season, justifying that a return to the Champions League after a four year absence would be a fantastic achievement.
That by no means is a foregone conclusion.
Liverpool are nervously looking over their shoulders at Tottenham, who have quietly gone about closing the gap to just three points, whilst Everton and Manchester United will consider themselves still in with a chance of crashing the party.
Liverpool perhaps depend on Champions League football more than most, considering the prolonged absence from Europe’s elite competition they have experienced.
Champions League football is regarded as essential to Liverpool and Rodger’s rebuilding plan.
The funds it would offer would give the Liverpool boss a real chance to compete in the transfer market for arguably the first time of his tenure.
But with talk of possible Champions League money arriving in the future, there have been a fair share of ridiculous transfer rumours linking players in and out of Anfield.
