Arsenal fans are looking despondent in the Football Transfer Tavern this morning after watching their side crash to a 2-0 home defeat against Bayern Munich in their Champions League first leg tie.
That leaves them with a mighty tough trip to the Allianz Arena with Arsene Wenger’s side needing to score at least three times without reply to progress.
The signing of the summer for the Gunners was supposed to be Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil ,who joined for a club record fee, worth around £42 million, with huge expectation on the shoulders.
However his performances have been disappointing of late and this frustration was was encapsulated by this penalty miss last night. Instead we believe that a free transfer can be regarded as the more important signing as AC Milan’s Matheiu Flamini returned to the club and has proved an astute acquisition.
That has led some of our punters onto the point that perhaps the Gunners again should look to raid Serie A for talent similar to Flamini, in a league where there are clearly bargains to be had.
We’ve now helped them compile a list of five possible targets from Italy, who could make the switch to north London during the summer.
