Liverpool fans have been forced to endure one of the most drawn out transfer sagas perhaps of all time this summer, which could ultimately end with the club losing their best player in the form of Luis Suarez.
Which is why Reds supporters will not take kindly to some reports in todays papers that suggest Barcelona are still keen on the clubs new vice captain Daniel Agger – and worse still, news that suggests the Dane is ‘open’ to a switch to the Camp Nou.
Agger – when fit – has been one of Liverpool’s best and most consistent players for a number of years.
Signed by Rafael Benitez for £5.5 million from Brondby in January 2006, Agger has gone on to establish himself as one of Europe’s finest defenders, and was announced as the clubs successor to Jamie Carragher as vice captain over the weekend.
Liverpool fans will vouch that a man who has ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ tattooed across his knuckles will not be going anywhere, especially since being handed the vice captaincy.
But if this transfer window has taught us anything – it is that sadly you should always expect the unexpected with regards to players moving on.
Whilst a switch to the Camp Nou does seem unlikely, Rodgers will need to identify a replacement just in case.
Here we have identified 5 possible candidates to replace fans favourite Agger should he complete the switch to the Spanish champions.
