We are all in agreement in the Football Transfer Tavern, that no club occupying seventh place at this stage of a Premier League season has ever attracted as much attention as Manchester United are currently.
The 20 time English champions have looked a shadow of their former selves under new boss David Moyes for the majority of the campaign, and last week suffered their eighth league defeat of the season at the hands of Stoke City.
The result came as a shock to many, especially since this was the first time Moyes had been able to field Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and £37.1 million January signing Juan Mata from the start.
The incredible capture of the Spaniard from Chelsea saw many predict a turning point for United, but their defensive failures at the Britannia Stadium coupled with a lack of quality in the midfield, made many realise there is still plenty of work to be done for Moyes.
The former Everton boss has spoken of being given time to turn the team into his own, which is likely to include a mass clear out in the near future.
Anderson, Fabio and Wilfried Zaha all departed in January – although the latter only on loan – and the general feeling was that there could have been a few more.
