After the success of the last season when Newcastle United impressed all with a 5th placed Premier League finish to ensure qualification for the Europa League, he current domestic campaign has been a disappointing one with the Magpies struggling to emulate last season’s form.
The St. James’ Park-based club are already out of both domestic cups, which leaves just the Europa League to compete for as Alan Pardew looks to get his hand on his first piece of major silverware (bar the Championship winning trophy!) and the club’s first for a long 44 years.
The Magpies beat mega-rich Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala over two legs to reach the quarter-finals of Europe’s second best competition and Pardew has remained committed to trying his best in the tournament, despite their faltering domestic campaign.
