There is a new kid on the block at Manchester United, with striker Marcus Rashford the latest to emerge from a glittering youth academy.

The 18-year-old has netted four goals in his first two starts for the club and the United faithful here in the Transfer Tavern, are rubbing their hands together at the prospect of just how good their latest star could be.

Yesterday he ensured that the Arsenal supporters were crying into their empty pint pots, with Rashford netting twice in a 3-2 victory, to leave the Gunners’ title hopes in tatters.

Despite the criticism thrown in the direction of boss Louis van Gaal, one thing the United supporters here in the Tavern have been happy with, is the amount of youngsters who he has handed first-team opportunities too, during his time with the club.

Here the Transfer Tavern’s very own Lee Clarke tells us FIVE things that we need to know about the latest United starlet.....

Fletcher Moss Rangers graduate

The Manchester-born youngster was part of the highly-rated junior team Fletcher Moss Rangers, who have previously boasted some big names.

Wes Brown, Danny Welbeck and Ravel Morrison have all graduated through the Fletcher Moss ranks and gone on to play for Manchester United.

Current team-mates Tyler Blackett and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson are also former Fletcher Moss lads and Rashford is the latest string to the amateur club’s bow.

Rashford is born and bred in Manchester having been raised in Wythenshawe, which is renowned as one of the nicest parts of the city.

Loyal to Manchester United

Having played amateur football in the city, Rashford naturally caught the eye of United’s city rivals Manchester City too.

City actually made an attempt to poach the striker from United, such were his performances in the Under-18’s for the Red Devils.

Rashford rejected the approach and instead knuckled down with a keen focus on reaching the first-team squad at Old Trafford.

The 18-year-old has always been a keen follower of Manchester United and it was his childhood dream to represent the club he supported.

New Manchester United academy directory Nicky Butt is a massive fan of the striker and has backed him for a bright future.

Given that Butt came through one of, if not the greatest youth team of all time, that is high praise indeed, for an 18-year-old.

Butt has managed the youngster back during his days in charge of the Under-18 and Under-21 teams and fancies Rashford to succeed at Old Trafford.

He said in the Metro: Marcus is explosive; he’s a very talented boy but a good, hard worker as well.

“He’s a good lad to have in your team because he puts a shift in for the team. He’s explosive and he scores goals.”

Club record already in his possession

Rashford has just two first-team appearances to his name yet he has already earned himself a place in the Manchester United history books.

When the striker netted against Midtjylland in the Europa League last Thursday, he became the youngest player to net a European goal for the Premier League giants.

The record had been intact for some years all the way back to when the late great George Best was still playing, with Rashford’s brace against the Danes, making him the new record holder.

You might have seen his name before

Many United fans may or may not have heard of Rashford before his inclusion in Thursday's Europa League starting line-up.

The youngster has been on the bench earlier in the season however, during a 2-1 win away at Watford and a week later in a 1-1 draw with high-flying Leicester City.

On both occasions he was an unused substitute and it makes you wonder whether Louis van Gaal now regrets not thrusting him into the first-team fold sooner.
