Whilst most of the hype has been surrounding the improved £40million offer for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, another story emerged that could mean the Gunners are set to break their transfer record twice in a matter of weeks.
Reports have suggested that Arsene Wenger is close to tying up a deal for 20-year-old Brazilian winger Bernard, who is currently plying his trade at Atletico Mineiro in his native Brazil.
Despite Arsenal trying to keep this quiet – Wenger has reportedly played down the links – it does seem as though the youngster is the firm favourite to become Arsenal’s first major signing of the summer.
Gunners fans will certainly hope so. Supporters have seen the club linked with numerous big names this summer such as Wayne Rooney, who is reportedly Chelsea bound, Gonzalo Higuain – who has just undergone a medical at Napoli – and of course Luis Suarez, who Liverpool are adament is going nowhere, at least without a major fight.
The signing of Bernard would do a lot to ease the current frustration surrounding the Emirates, but just what would the Gunners be getting for their money?
