The Brazilian has been given chance after chance by manager Jose Mourinho and has quite frankly blown each one more dramatically than the last. A mistake waiting to happen is the kindest thing we can think to say about the defender.
When you consider Chelsea’s back four as a whole, that may not be the worst thing in the world. It is just one quarter of it after all.
As our landlord points out however, when you add to that the fact that Gary Cahill is a Tesco value version of Jose’s Waitrose egg John Terry – who himself is nearly past his expiry date- it does not create a very good shopping bag.
To make their omelettes the best in the league – let alone the best in Europe, Chelsea need another young chicken. That looks like coming in the form of Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala, who has been firmly on the Blues’ shopping list for some time now.
Mourinho has of course successfully raided former club Porto on a number of occasions for their defenders and the likes of Ricardo Carvalho have gone on to become Chelsea legends. Considering Mourinho is about to try and recreate this success, we thought it would probably be a good idea to tell our punters all about the defender.
