iloriWhat a difference a year makes.

Twelve months ago Brendan Rodgers found himself in a similar position to the one in which Manchester United boss David Moyes finds himself now.

The Northern Irishman came in for fierce criticism twelve months ago, just a couple of months into his reign as Liverpool manager, after a disastrous transfer window which saw record signing Andy Carroll allowed to leave on loan with no replacement bought in.

The mistakes of a year ago have been well and truly rectified in the two transfer windows that have followed.

January saw the arrivals of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho – arguably the Reds two standout performers in the last eight months – whilst eight new faces arrived this summer with minimum fuss.

Rodgers has strengthened in every department, but the defence has certainly appeared the main focus of attention, with the arrival of three new centre backs, a new left back and a new goalkeeper.

Deadline day saw the Reds splash out £25 million on two more centre backs, in the form of £17 million French international Mamadou Sakho from Paris Saint-Germain and young Portuguese Under-21 defender Tiago Ilori for £8 million from Sporting Lisbon.

Sakho’s arrival has grabbed most of the headlines, but what of the other defensive recruit and the Reds’ latest Portugeezer?

Here we have identified five things you may not know about the Reds’ new number 26, Tiago Ilori.
