Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were not best pleased when Javier Hernandez came off the bench to score the winning goal for Manchester United against Stoke City this weekend.
Not just because they always enjoy seeing United drop points, but because of the fact that they had their eye on the forward come January. Chicharito has been struggling to get games under David Moyes and had expressed a willingness to leave the club in order to get some playing time.
Our Lilywhites contingent were then quite hopeful of a winter swoop. They are in need of a forward and feel that Hernandez would be the perfect partner for Roberto Soldado.
Unfortunately for them, they may well have to cast around for alternatives, with David Moyes seemingly giving the forward another chance to impress. Add to this the fact that Moyes has come out and claimed he will block any approach for the forward, and the chances of a move are ebbing away by the day.
It is not all doom and gloom for Spurs fans; they know that Daniel Levy will have a plan B and C, and are now speculating as to just what that could be.
With that in mind, here are the five alternatives to Hernandez we think Spurs could sign.
