World Cup fever has hit the Football Transfer Tavern ahead of England’s opening group game with Italy tonight, but Arsenal fans still have a nagging domestic concern.
Bacary Sagna’s move to Manchester City was finally confirmed yesterday meaning the Gunners have lost one of their most reliable and experienced players to a Premier League title rival.
It means Arsene Wenger is going to have to fund a move for a top class replacement, with most reports claiming a move for Toulouse right back and Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier seems the most likely bet.
But with the Gunners’ recent history in the transfer window, there are concerns amongst Arsenal fans that the club are going to come up short in the transfer market once again.
The previous two windows have been especially difficult to watch, with high profile pursuits of Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez, Stevan Jovetic, Bernard, Alvaro Morata and Julian Draxler all coming up short.
Wenger went some way to masking the disappointment with a club record move for Mesut Ozil, but that won’t wash with Arsenal supporters this summer, who know that the club need at least four top additions if they are to seriously challenge for the major honours next season – and a right back is where they need to start.
