It all started so brightly for the Reds, with the early captures of Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto and Simon Mignolet providing real optimism for the season ahead.
Since then however it has all been about one man, with the Luis Suarez saga continuing to drag on and on.
Liverpool remain adamant their main man is not for sale, and Brendan Rodgers has continued to speak positively about bringing in further new signings.
The Reds are working with one hand tied behind their back to an extent, as they are unable to offer any sort of European football at Anfield next season, a fact that has already prevented them signing their top summer target Henrikh Mkhitaryan who opted to sign for Borussia Dortmund instead.
Therefore Rodgers must be even more careful in the business he does, regarding potential incomings and outgoings, and be sure he does not rush anything. Liverpool have seen in the past two many times how a signing that looks good on paper can turn out to be a real flop – think Carroll, Morientes, Kewell, Diouf etc.
