Transfer windows never appear to be quiet for Tottenham Hotspur. This one in particular has proved crazier than any that Harry Redknapp oversaw during his tenure at the club – and that in itself is saying something.
The club have already smashed their transfer record to bring in Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, and are expected to shortly announce the signing of Spanish forward Roberto Soldado. Add to this the clever capture of Belgian winger Nacer Chadli for £7million, and Tottenham look in a very healthy position going into next season.
That was until the stories regarding Gareth Bale’s potential switch to Real Madrid exploded all over the back pages last week.
Now every story concerning Tottenham is debating whether the Welshman will complete his world record move to the Spanish giants, and has sadly taken a lot of attention away from what has been in fact an excellent transfer window for the club.
And it doesn’t seem like AVB is done there. The Spurs manager still has desires to strengthen further, and assuming Bale stays put will have to do it on something of a budget.
Should the Welshman depart, he will have untold riches to play with, but in the meantime he may well have to consider some bargains and potential gambles.
