It’s a massive weekend for Everton fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern, as they prepare to welcome David Moyes back to Goodison Park for the first time since his summer switch to Manchester United.
Since the end of the 11 year relationship between Moyes and Everton, both have gone in opposite directions.
Moyes has taken the reigning Premier League champions into a fight for a Europa League spot, whilst his replacement Roberto Martinez has the Toffees battling Arsenal for the final Champions League position.
It had all been going perfectly for Everton, until Wednesday nights shock defeat at home to Crystal Palace.
That result has left the fourth placed finish back in Arsenal’s hands, despite the Toffees having previously won seven consecutive matches – including a 3-0 mauling of Arsene Wenger’s side.
The Palace result means the return of David Moyes and the visit of Manchester United takes on added significance this Sunday, with Everton needing three points to keep the pressure on Arsenal as we head into the final month of the season.
Even if Martinez sees his side fall short, his work in his first season at Goodison Park deserves tremendous praise.
The Toffees have impressed everyone with their brand of attacking, possession based football, and have looked every inch a Champions League side over the last two months.
But with several loan signings still unsure whether their deals will be made permanent at the club, Martinez is heading for an important transfer window as he looks to bring Everton amongst Europe’s elite.
