Everton returned to Premier League action this weekend with a home clash against Aston Villa.
Prior to the clash, our resident Toffees were a bit down in the dumps at their slow start to the season with the Merseysiders somewhat strangely languishing just above the relegation zone after a tough run of fixtures to start the season.
Before the Villa game, Roberto Martinez’s side had faced Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United already this season, boasting just six points from their opening seven matches – and just one Premier League win to their name.
Martinez has not been helped by injuries to key players, with the likes of Ross Barkley, Kevin Mirallas and John Stones all currently sidelined.
Their leaky defence has also been a cause for concern, with the 3-6 home defeat to Chelsea an example of the defensive frailties currently on show at Goodison Park.
With a club record £28 million spent on Romelu Lukaku in the summer, Roberto Martinez will have to be savvy when it comes to his January spending.
With that in mind, we have identified five transfer priorities for the Everton boss to consider.
