Tottenham have enjoyed a mixed start to the season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The Lilywhites suffered a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United earlier on today – a game whereby Emmanuel Adebayor initially put the Londoners in the lead.
However, Thursday night saw Spurs win comfortably in Europe, bouncing back from a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Manchester City the previous weekend.
The midweek Europa League game will be remembered especially for a stunning rabona goal from club-record signing Erik Lamela – a player who has flattered to deceive during his spell at White Hart Lane up until now.
Lamela is an example of a player Pochettino has been tasked with improving, with Tottenham having spent in excess of £100 million in the summer of 2013, only to produce a disappointing sixth placed finish.
Pochettino has been given limited funds in order to rebuild, with the Argentine coach told to work with and improve what he already has at his disposal.
With some promising signs emerging already, it seems chairman Daniel Levy is ready to back his new coach with money to spend at the midway point of the season.
Here, we have identified five players Tottenham should look to sign once that January transfer window opens.
