Liverpool fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern are still not happy about the events that unfolded in front of their eyes a week ago.
Reds fans had gathered at the bar in the hope of watching Jim White and co announce the ‘major deal’ Brendan Rodgers had predicted earlier – only to be left disappointed once more.
The clubs failings in the transfer market have come under scrutiny over the last week, as the club once again failed to land a major target, with Ukraine winger Yevhen Konoplyanka failing to arrive on deadline day, despite agreeing personal terms and completing a medical.
Reds fans agree that the signing of another attacking player should not have been the priority anyway, with defensive concerns looking the most likely cause to dent their Champions League aspirations.
The Reds have severe injury problems at the back, being at least three players short of their first choice back four.
Glen Johnson, Mamadou Sakho, Daniel Agger, and the almost forgotten Jose Enrique all remain in the treatment room, whilst defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva is suffering with further knee trouble.
The injuries appear to have exposed the lack of depth in the current Liverpool squad, and have raised further questions as to why the club didn’t do more to strengthen last month.
One opinion is that the money simply isn’t there, especially after the Reds failed to match FC Basel’s asking price for Mohamed Salah, and were forced to watch Chelsea step in at the last moment.
With that in mind, perhaps Brendan Rodgers will have to look at strengthening his squad in the summer with a few bargains.
Here we have identified 5 ‘transfer snips’ for Liverpool to snap up this summer.
