It’s been a torrid couple of weeks for Arsenal fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern, who have been busy drowning their sorrows at what looks set to be another season of being built up and knocked back down.
Arsenal were many peoples choice for the Premier League title at the turn of the year, following some impressive performances over the first half of the season that saw them as the early league pace-setters.
But as has so often been the case over the last few years, Wenger refused to splash any cash in January, injuries took their toll, results dipped, and the Gunners found themselves out of the title race and the Champions League before the end of March.
The 6-0 defeat to Chelsea 10 days ago could perhaps be considered a turning point in Wenger’s Arsenal career, as this was the third time this season the Gunners were thrashed away to a title rival.
Manchester City put six past them in December, Liverpool won 5-1 at Anfield in February, and Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea ensured Wenger’s 1000th game in charge was one to forget.
A top four finish and an FA Cup triumph remains in sight, but next season there needs to be some more top level signings bought in if the Gunners want to make a serious title challenge.
With that in mind, we have gone through the rumours and come up with five potential signings we think Arsenal fans do not want to see at the Emirates Stadium.
