Tottenham supporters inside the Football Transfer Tavern feel they have barely had time to catch their breath before the start of England’s World Cup campaign.
With World Cup fever gripping the nation, some Tottenham fans remain scarred by a dramatic 2013/14 campaign – of which the repercussions are still being felt.
A year ago, chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Franco Baldini were busy plotting ways in which to spend the world record fee they would shortly be receiving for Gareth Bale.
But after over £100 million in investment on new players, Tottenham ended the season in sixth place and having disposed of two managers.
Andre Villas-Boas was the first to go in December, whilst Tim Sherwood was shown the exit door at the end of the season having failed to achieve what would have been considered a miraculous top four finish.
The major signings flopped – Christian Eriksen aside – and new boss Mauricio Pochettino has a big task on his hands to get the club back amongst Europe’s elite.
