Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are fully aware that their side are title contenders this season. The return of Jose Mourinho has brought with it even more expectation than usual at Stamford Bridge.
Of course with those expectations comes a huge amount of pressure and some players are not living up to that at present.
The major issue that Chelsea are finding, as pointed out by one of our punters, is the lack of goals. Their forwards have been nothing short of abysmal in the league so far.In fact, they have not managed to get a goal between them!
Fernando Torres is facing a lay off due to injury and also a suspension. Demba Ba has been well and truly out cast from the group and Samuel Eto’o has not been the success that anyone had hoped.
The major problem therefore is the lack of striking prowess up top while Blues loanee Romelu Lukaku continues to flourish at Everton – and cannot be recalled.
Clearly to boost their title credentials, Chelsea need a forward. Another problem for the club is of course finding a player who is not cup tied in respect of the Champions League.
As our landlord notes, the Blues have plenty of money to spend and Roman Abramovich has never been tight with his purse strings and will happily shell out lavish fees on his beloved club.
With that in mind, we have taken over the bar with a list of five players that Chelsea could buy this January.
