As everyone gathers to celebrate World Cup eve in the Football Transfer Tavern, the conversation changes to Group H and tournament dark horses Belgium.
The Belgians enter the tournament with their golden generation seemingly at their peak, and with no shortage of representatives from Tottenham.
Jan Vertonghen, Moussa Dembele and Nacer Chadli were all part of a Tottenham side that endured a difficult 2013-14 campaign.
A host of new signings struggled to adapt, Andre Villas-Boas was sacked in December, and Tim Sherwood spent the remainder of the season feeling ‘like a supply teacher.’
Spurs ended the season in sixth place, Sherwood has since been relieved of his duties, and Argentine Mauricio Pochettino has been poached from Southampton.
How much money Pochettino will be given to spend remains unclear, since the club blew their world record transfer fee for Gareth Bale and then some on the hope of making the Champions League last summer.
Pochettino may have to be shrewd in the transfer market, and will be keeping a close eye out for bargains – especially when watching his Belgian representatives in their Group H clashes.
Here we have identified five stars on show from Group H that could prove shrewd signings for Tottenham this summer.
