The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are still suffering from the fallout of their side’s Champions League disaster on Wednesday evening.
However, the Citizens can’t get too down in the dumps about the result, as they have a very tough game coming up this weekend. They’re set to take on Man Utd in the Manchester derby on Saturday, and if they pick up three points, they will be crowned Premier League champions.
That said, they must use their loss against Liverpool to their advantage, and more specifically, Pep Guardiola must make a few selection choices based on that result.
Nobody impressed in a Man City shirt, but one player that looked particularly poor was Nicolas Otamendi, who is rated at £31.5 million by Transfer Markt. He has really picked up his game this season, but his performance level really dropped when it mattered.
However, it doesn’t appear as though all fans have turned against him.
In light of their European result, we asked fans whether Otamendi should be dropped when Man Utd come to town, and it’s fair to say that fans are very divided on the matter, with 53% voting in favour of the decision, whilst 47% voted to the contrary.
Whilst Otamendi’s fine form has put him into the good books of our resident Citizens, it’s clear that not everyone is convinced.
He looked poor against Liverpool, and he – along with his defenders – was punished. Given the strength of Man Utd’s attack, the same could happen again this weekend.
That said, our landlord isn’t sure who Guardiola would pick instead, and so he’s still expecting the Spaniard to persist with the 30-year-old. That will likely lead to some frustrated Citizens, though.
