The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that they can shock the world against Liverpool. Their opponents, led by Jurgen Klopp, are riding a wave of form at present, and so anything other than a Liverpool win will come as a surprise to our landlord.
Given the nature of the game, then, you’d think that Sam Allardyce will be planning to start all of his biggest names, but a decent portion of the Everton faithful appear to want something different this weekend.
We recently ran a poll on the topic of Wayne Rooney and whether he should start the game, and the results – which can be viewed below – are very interesting indeed.
There is a sense of division amongst fans, with 55% of supporters calling for the Englishman to be dropped, whilst 45% of fans are keen for him to start.
Undoubtedly one of Everton’s biggest stars, Wayne Rooney’s form this season has been mixed at best, with the forward yet to recreate the success that he enjoyed in his heyday with Man Utd.
His experience, you would expect, will be vital on a stage like this, and that’s likely a big reason why as many as 45% of fans are keen for him to start.
However, others may view a player like Tom Davies – who is able to create something out of nothing – as more of a high-risk-high-reward type option.
The final decision will lie with Sam Allardyce, but it’s fair to say that a portion of fans will be left disappointed regardless.
