Tottenham Hotspur have established a solid reputation in recent years for employing plenty of the best English players in the country.
In the modern age it’s rare for the top Premier League clubs to boast an array of English talent with their ranks, but Tottenham are a notable exception to the rule.
With the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane, Harry Winks and Kieran Trippier all residing within the squad it’s fair to say that Mauricio Pochettino has some of England’s best talents at his disposal.
The departure of Kyle Walker in the summer of 2017 saw Spurs wave goodbye to one of their most talented players, but the development of Trippier (valued at £27 million by Transfermarkt) since his departure has enabled the club to forget about their former flying full-back.
Indeed, Trippier’s form has been so exceptional that Gareth Southgate found a way to incorporate both him and Walker into his starting XI at the World Cup – a tactical decision which provoked plenty of discussion in the media.
There was a feeling that Walker’s talents were wasted in central defence but the tactical switch enabled England to progress to the semi-final, so clearly Southgate was doing something right.
But who is the better of England’s two best wing-backs: Walker or Trippier?
We put that question forward to fans of Tottenham Hotspur who have had the benefit of watching both players in action for their club in recent years, and Trippier came out on top with 58% of the vote.
It’s interesting to see that Trippier was only a marginal winner in the vote considering Walker decided to leave the club for Man City.
Walker enjoyed a glowing career in north London and his performances since joining City have certainly warranted his £50 million price-tag, but at £4.5 million there’s no doubt Spurs concluded a shrewd piece of business by signing Trippier, even if 42% of fans think the Champions have the better of the two players on their ranks.
