No sooner have we recovered from January’s transfer window chaos, than we are preparing for the next. The Mail is reporting Man United are already lining up their summer transfer targets, one of which is the relatively unknown Diacko Fofana.
Fofana, at just 17, has recently broken into the Nice first team, and Man Utd scouts have been following his progress through the youth ranks. The French teenager predominantly plays right-back, and has impressed with his speed and strength.
There is no confirmation on what kind of fee the player would command, but talkSPORT rumours a £5 million bid would be needed. That’s a lot for a player with only 1 first team performance to his name (and that was only due to Nice losing there other 3 right backs to injury and the African Nations!)
There seems to be other clubs interested in the exciting defender as well, and Nice may be hoping to start a bidding war. Man Utd should be careful before getting drawn into this. Although the competition for talented youngsters is more intense than ever, does that justify £5 million for such an untested quantity? Well, that’s what Sir Alex will have to decide.
Man United’s right back position is still unclaimed since Gary Neville’s retirement. However Fofana may need a few more years to develop before can take on the role.
