The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to their side’s clash with Man City this evening. It’s set to be another classic night featuring the Reds, and a win could prove to be crucial in the context of their season.
They are, at this point, just four games away from a Champions League final, and so a good performance this evening is key.
Jurgen Klopp’s team selection, then, will be in for a lot of scrutiny, as one or two major decisions could be the difference between a win and a loss.
One player that a lot of Liverpool fans seemingly want to see out of the first team is Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum. He featured in Liverpool’s last game against Crystal Palace, but in response to our question about whether he should be dropped against the Citizens, a whopping 61% of fans voting in favour – with just 39% of fans in support of his retention.
Wijnaldum, who is rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt, hasn’t been one of Liverpool’s best players this season, that’s for sure. Amidst increased competition in the heart of the midfield, the Dutchman hasn’t quite stepped up – though he hasn’t necessarily been bad.
That said, given that the likes of Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been so good this term and particularly in recent weeks, perhaps Wijnaldum would be better off on the bench.
The final decision will, of course, be made by Jurgen Klopp, but Liverpool fans clearly have their opinion.
