Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are still down in the dumps after last weekend’s FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.
Defeat at Wembley meant Jose Mourinho ended the season with no trophies for the first time as Manchester United manager. It was also the first time the Portuguese tasted defeat in an English cup final. While their playing style has been criticised this season, finishing second in the Premier League and reaching a cup final is no small achievement.
If United are to catch rivals Manchester City in the race for the title, they need reinforcements. With the transfer window now officially open, Mourinho must identify the players to take the Red Devils to the next level. One man who would do just that is Lazio midfielder – Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season in the Serie A, and his market value has skyrocketed as a result – rising to £63m from just £10.8m according to Transfermarkt. He made 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 and assisting nine. With Michael Carrick retiring, the Serbian is the perfect replacement.
He is a one-of-a-kind footballer due to his build and balance. Extremely strong but excellent on the ball, Milinkovic-Savic is the ideal midfield partner for Paul Pogba. He has averaged 1.5 key passes and a successful 1.6 dribbles per game according to WhoScored.
Pogba has failed to reach the heights expected of him following his record-breaking move from Juventus, Milinkovic-Savic is the man to bring the best out of him at Old Trafford.
