The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted with the fine form that Kendey showed on-loan at St James’ Park last season. Signed on a short-term basis from Chelsea, Kenedy came in and played a vital role as the Magpies put off the threat of relegation.
Given his fine form, it seems unlikely that Chelsea will loan him out again. Instead, you’d expect him to get a role in the Blues’ first team – as they’re lacking a player with his versatility and quality.
However, the move proved that the Blues have quality youngsters that can do a job for a top Premier League team, and so Newcastle should consider any other players that could make an impact.
One player that is, seemingly, popular amongst Newcastle fans is Mason Mount. Mount spent last season on-loan at Vitesse, where he picked up the Player of the Year award at the club. We recently made the case that Newcastle should target him.
Now, it seems, fans are eager for him to come to Newcastle. We recently ran a poll asking if Mount should be targeted by the club, and 69% of Newcastle fans responded with a resounding yes.
Mount is less versatile than Kenedy, and so would likely play in the attack rather than the defence, but still, he’d be a fantastic replacement for the Brazilian. He’s just as technically gifted, and he proved last season that he’s deadly going forward.
He picked up 8 goals and 9 assists this term, and so Newcastle should take note. He’d offer a lot to a team that has lacked goals at points over the last year or so.
