The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited at the prospect of Mesut Ozil linking up with new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan this season. The Gunners’ attack is beginning to look very good indeed, but it appears as though Arsene Wenger has plans to make it even better in the summer.
According to Kicker, Arsenal are keen on Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey – who has apparently caught the eye of a number of big sides in recent times. No further details on the nature of their interest are provided, but significantly, the German outfit are said to be keen to hang on to their prized asset.
Rated at £25.2 million by Transfer Markt, Bailey is a lightning fast attacking midfielder, and he is enjoying his most fruitful season yet in the Bundesliga. He has already picked up 7 goals and 5 assists, earmarking him as one of Leverkusen’s most important players.
At 20-years-old, he remains a hot prospect, but he has proven this term that if he is given a foundation and an oppurtunity, he can really deliver on all points.
He has tuned in a number of fantastic performances over the last few weeks, with excellent displays against the likes of Hoffenheim and Hannover proving to be the highlights of his campaign so far.
Providing fantastic technique, ability in front of goal and pace – he’d be right at home at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger has often shown a preference for young talent, and so a move for Bailey makes sense.
He wouldn’t be a cheap signing, given that Leverkusen would likely demand far beyond his market value, but if Wenger is planning to invest in quality youth, then a move makes sense.
He’d provide further competition for an attack that looks set to undergo a complete revamp over the coming months following the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
