The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been very impressed with Ashley Young this season. Brought back out of the cold by Jose Mourinho to play at left-back, the Englishman has grabbed his opportunity with both hands, and he’s now a regular under the Portuguese.
His fine form has even earned him international recognition, with the 33-cap international defender earning his spot back in the England setup.
However, it appears as though Man Utd fans want to see someone else get a chance against West Brom, at least owing to a recent poll ran by our landlord.
Our landlord recently questioned fans on whether Young should be dropped for the upcoming game, and a whopping 71% of fans have called for that to be the case, whilst just 29% of Man Utd fans have called for him to retain his spot.
Given how good Young has been this season, it’s certainly a surprise to see so many against him getting a start. That said, the response can also be explained.
He’s already in his 30s, and so he can’t be playing football every single week at maximum capacity, and so a day off every now and then will often be required. This game is as good as any for that to happen, given that West Brom are rock bottom at the end of the Premier League table.
Naturally, the allure of Luke Shaw is also likely tempting Man Utd fans. Though not a favourite of Jose Mourinho, Shaw is very popular amongst fans, and so perhaps they want to see him get a chance this weekend.
Whether that happens, though, remains to be seen, but Man Utd supporters clearly want to see someone else line up at left-back this weekend.
