The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling good at the moment. It has been a sensational few weeks for the Lilywhites, with their form in the Premier League improving every week and an excellent display in Spain against Real Madrid this week really proved their European credentials. Indeed, it’s clear that Mauricio Pochettino’s men are on a roll, and things are only going to get better at this point.
Their rise to the top has been remarkable to watch over the last few years, and it’s going to be key as they continue to develop. A top side is able to land Europe’s best players, and according to Don Balon, the Lilywhites are a target for undoubtedly one of the finest talents on the continent. Don Balon report that Gareth Bale, who made his name at White Hart Lane, is now hoping for a move back to North London – with the Welshman keen to refind his form at the club that made him famous.
It would certainly be a remarkable story for the winger, with his love for his old club clearly still undying. Whether Tottenham would be able to afford him is another matter entirely, but the desire is, reportedly, still there – and that’s significant.
Though he has his critics, Bale’s spell in Spain has been far from a failure. He certainly hasn’t had the impact of Cristiano Ronaldo, but that was always going to be an impossibly high bar to jump over. He’s scored key goals and produced fantastic moments, and in that sense, his move has been a success.
That said, he’s certainly not in his finest hour at present, and so a move away could be on the cards. Undoubtedly, the Tottenham fans would love their Welsh hero to return.
Bale is rated at £72 million by Transfer Markt, and so whether the Welshman would be financially viable for Tottenham is a big talking point. Rarely have the Lilywhites invested in proven talent in recent years, and so it is unlikely – but an exception could be made for Bale.
He’d certainly make an impact in London, with his combinations with Harry Kane having the potential to be devastating.
