The arrival of a new manager guarantees a shift in the club dynamic which typically sees the importance of players shift accordingly to the preferences and style of the newly appointed boss, and Unai Emery’s appointment at Arsenal is no exception to the rule.
Whether a player who consistently under-performed under a previous manager finally gets the boot or a rarely seen striker is finally given a run of games at the spearhead of the attack, there is almost always at least one notable sub-plot to discuss concerning individual relationships between manager and player.
In Laurent Koscielny’s case, the Arsenal veteran has been missing under the Spaniard due to an Achilles tendon rupture which is expected to rule him out until December, so it remains unclear if Emery values him as an important part of the club’s future.
At 33-years-old and with the emergence of Sokratis to consider, there is a possibility that Koscielny will struggle to regain his place in the first-team following his return from injury.
With that in mind, we asked Arsenal supporters if they believe the 51-cap France international is finished at the club following a stint in north London spanning over more than eight years, and the result suggested that the fans are expecting him to play an important role under Emery.
Indeed, just 25% of supporters believe that Koscielny is finished at the club, with an overwhelming majority backing him to play a future role following his return from injury.
It will be interesting to see if the standard of Koscielny’s performances will be as exemplary as the supporters have become accustomed to over the years, as a handful of rusty performances on his return could shift attitudes amongst the Gunners faithful.
