The latest name in a very long list, to be linked to a move to Liverpool, as reported by the Daily Mail, is 24 year old Rasmus Elm.
The transfer rumour mill is rife with speculation surrounding Liverpool FC’s summer incomings and out-goings at this moment in time; this is somewhat unsurprising however given the inconsistent form of a number of players and the team as a whole this season.
Undeniably Kenny Dalglish will be looking to bring in a number of new faces in order to bolster his squad, before preparations start for what could be a telling season both for club and Dalglish come August.
So who exactly is this guy? Well, Rasmus Elm is a 24 year old midfielder and Swedish international. The footballer, with the Lord of the Rings-esque name, plies his trade in the Dutch Premier League, the Eredivisie, with AZ Alkmaar.
And as Liverpool look to add some much needed fire power to their midfield, they could do worse than the Alkmaar talisman who has played a pivotal part for both club and country this season. In the 2011.201 campaign, Elm has so far scored 12 goals in 34 appearances for his club; such a return could relieve some of the goal-scoring pressure from Liverpool’s much criticised forwards (notably Andy Carroll) should he make the move to Anfield.
The former Kalmarr FF player started out his professional career as a wide player, adept at playing either left or right of midfield. However, his best performances have been seen in the central midfield role where his expert touch and outstanding vision has gifted the young man with a great range of passing. At 6ft, Elm would also bring presence to a Liverpool midfield currently lacking in authority, even with Steven Gerrard in the side.
This is not the first time Elm has attracted interest from the UK and Europe’s leading sides. In recent time, Manchester United, Arsenal, Blackburn, Bayern Munich, Everton, AC Milan, Tottenham; the list goes on, have all reportedly kept tabs on the talented Swede.
This season, possibly his best in the Eredvisie, Elm has received main plaudits from both fans and media alike and inevitably his name has been, yet again, linked with a move away from the team he joined in September 2009. And, I’m pretty sure that his relatively low asking price of £7 million won’t be detering any teams reported to have been looking at the Alkmaar midfielder.
As Dalglish looks to add more goals and consistency to his side in the summer months, I suspect that Rasmus Elm will only be one of the first in a long line of players rumoured to interest Kenny Dalglish and Liverpool. Expect a mass exodus and influx of players to and from Anfield come the summer break; it should make for an interesting watch.
