Marcel Brands arrived at the club prior to the opening of the summer window as part of an overhaul in personnel at Everton Football Club.
A year of frustration stimulated tangible action at Everton during the summer as Marco Silva arrived to replace Sam Allardyce and Brands arrived as the new director of football.
Together they managed to welcome a whole host of talented new players to the club with the intention of taking the Toffees to the next level.
Out of all the summer signings to arrive at Goodison Park, Richarlison has had the most profound impact by notching 4 goals from 6 Premier League fixtures and showcasing his hot-headed streak by receiving a red card against Bournemouth for a petulant headbutt in September.
One way or another the Brazilian boy wonder has stolen the headlines so far this season, but there is a growing media interest in his fellow compatriot and summer recruit Bernard.
Indeed, I recently produced an article in response to Sky Sports pundit Nick Wright’s column on Bernard in which he cited his positive contribution as both a creative outlet and a willing defensive worker.
His recognition of Bernard’s array of talents was backed up by conclusive statistical evidence and, with his recent performances in mind, I posed a question to the Everton supporters: is Bernard Everton’s best summer signing?
And the response was overwhelmingly in Bernard’s favour as 83% of the polled supporters voted yes.
Although Richarlison’s electric start to the season would suggest that he is Brands’ best signing since joining the club, the fact Everton managed to secure Bernard’s services for free certainly influenced the voters to give the 14-cap Brazil international the nod.Like what the TT have on offer?
