The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are a frustrated bunch at the moment. A top four finish looked likely at the end of 2017, but their form over the last few months has been nothing short of disastrous.
They’ve failed to win in the Premier League since the 10th of March, and so Antonio Conte desperately needs to turn the form of his team around.
He certainly deserves some of the blame, but it can’t all be put onto the Italian. Indeed, the players themselves have to take some of the attention, given that their performances on the pitch have done Antonio Conte no favours.
One player that has been particularly poor over the last few months is Gary Cahill. Often a regular in the past, the Englishman has found his spot in the first team come under question this season from Antonio Rudiger, but he was given a chance to impress against West Ham last week.
However, the Englishman didn’t look too good, and the Hammers’ late equaliser has put the spotlight back on him ahead of their weekend clash with Southampton
We recently questioned fans on whether he should be dropped to faces the Saints, and it’s fair to say that fans are convinced. A whopping 85% of supporters have called for him to lose his spot, whilst just 15% would like to see him stay in team.
That’s a pretty unanimous verdict from fans, and it’s easy to see why. He simply hasn’t been good enough this season, and at 32-years-old, it’s tough to see him regaining his form long-term.
Clearly, Antonio Rudiger is earning the plaudits amongst Chelsea fans, and with good reason. He has been far better than Cahill in defence.
