88% of polled Tottenham fans think Mauricio Pochettino was right to snub Ross Barkley

Tottenham Hotspur had an opportunity to ponder over what might have been on Tuesday evening as Ross Barkley stepped onto the Wembley turf in Chelsea blue.

Maurizio Sarri handed Barkley an opportunity to impress from the outset against the side he could have joined this time last year.

According to Football.London, Daniel Levy was prepared to sanction a deal for Barkley in the 2018 January window but Pochettino personally rejected the opportunity to sign the Evertonian.

At the time, his decision was met with bemusement by the supporters who were craving a January addition, and at just £15 million Barkley looked like a gamble worth taking.

But, in the aftermath of a desperately mediocre showing in the first-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, we asked the Spurs supporters if they think Pochettino made the right call and the verdict was overwhelmingly in the Argentine’s favour.

Barkley has shown signs of improvement this season at Chelsea after enduring a slow start under Antonio Conte’s tutelage, but he has struggled for consistency in recent weeks.

His sudden dip in form has clearly influenced the thoughts of the Spurs supporters who once bemoaned Pochettino for his transfer snub, but they may yet change their minds once again if Barkley is able to finally fulfil his enormous potential.
