Italian giants Juventus will step up their pursuit of Chelsea’s defender Alex after the Brazilian revealed he would be in favour of a move to Turin. The Brazilian also reported that a permanent move would be preferable for all parties.
“I am aware of Juventus’ interest, but I think they want to sign me on loan and this would not be a real alternative for me or Chelsea,” Alex said.
“My agent has been contacted by Juventus, I am 29 years old and Juve be a great opportunity. I would love to play in Italy and I hope I can realise this dream before I retire.
“Now, it all depends on Juve, who must come to an agreement with Chelsea.”
Alex finds himself unable to displace club captain John Terry nor high-profile new signing and compatriot David Luiz. Having never played more than 22 league games in a year for Chelsea , Alex has grown frustrated with life at Stamford Bridge.
Having not been called up to the Brazil squad for more than six months now, Alex sees regular football as his only chance of competing in a home World Cup as Brazil host the competition in 2014.
Juventus are currently reinvesting having finished a very disappointing seventh last season. New coach Antonio Conte is busy securing experienced and talented players to lift the side back into Champions League qualification. A bid of £8m is likely to be enough to convince Andre Villas-Boas to part with his centre-back.
