Tottenham Hotspur fans in The Transfer Tavern were some of the most buoyant this season as they were treated to exceptional football on an almost weekly basis, finishing high in the table and perhaps most importantly, above Arsenal!
The club’s summer transfer window will be one of tweaking their elite squad rather than full scale revolution but given their resources you’d still expect them to be busy.
The Evening Standard reported earlier this week that one man on their radar was Ajax right-back Joel Veltman, who has been in fine form this season.
He made 44 appearances for the Dutch club, helping them into the UEFA Europa League final where they lost to Manchester United
The paper reported that his contract is up next season and therefore could be available for a fee as low as £8m, well within Spurs’ budget.
Now the defender, who is on duty with the Netherlands, has responded to the interest, also revealing he’s discussed a potential switch with a current Tottenham player and international teammate.
As quoted by VI, Veltman said: “I have told my agent, there is nothing known to him. Vincent Janssen joked already that we will be teammates, but currently there is nothing concrete.”
It certainly seems as if faltering striker Janssen would like a buddy at the club but whether the deal comes to fruition remains to be seen.
What do you think Spurs fans? Is Veltman the standard of defender you would like to see Mauricio Pochettino to the club?
