Fenerbahce’s striker Mamadou Niang has expressed his desire to stay in Turkey after starting brightly with the former Turkish champions.
He has bagged himself eight goals in twelve league games and also has six assists to his name. His team sit in third place in the Turkish Super Lig, nine points off leaders Trabzonspor.
The Senegalese international has been heavily linked with Liverpool and Arsenal since May after finishing as the top scorer in the French Ligue One last season with 18 goals in 32 appearances. He eventually signed for Fenerbahce for around £8million.
He is very happy in Turkey at present which has knocked back both English teams who are in the race for his signature, he said:
“Everything happens so quickly in football in more ways than one, and you never know what the future has in store for you. I know you can never say never, but I’m set on staying at Fenerbahce for a long time.”
Liverpool have been linked with other strikers of late and this will be a setback to them as Niang is one of their top targets. They are desperate for extra firepower up front unlike Arsenal who have plenty of talent up top with Marouane Chamakh, Nicklas Bendtner and Robin Van Persie’s return from injury will provide a major boost for them.
Yes Niang is a good player and his physical approach does suit the premier league, but at the age of 30 and the asking price in question, both clubs can do better. I don’t believe it will affect them too much as they both have big transfer targets in the shape of Falcao at Porto and Luis Suarez of Ajax if they can snap up a striker like these, Niang will be a forgotten man.
