Everton have enjoyed a decent couple of weeks, with Marco Silva’s men finally reaching the level that many expected of the earlier this season.
SIlva was always going to need time to make an impact at Goodison Park, and heading into November, the Portuguese appears to have finally found his feet.
Many of his players are looking great. The likes of Idrissa Gueye and Lucas Digne are just two impressive faces under the manager, with many more also performing well.
However, it’s not been a unanimous case of good form at Goodison Park. Indeed, in recent weeks there have been more than a few players that are performing below par, and long-term, that’s going to have a negative impact on the club.
With that said, it’s obvious that these 2 Everton players simply haven’t been good enough…
Everton were looking for a top-class forward when they signed Cenk Tosun. Romelu Lukaku had left the club for Man Utd, leaving a gulf in quality going forward, and that’s a gulf that has arguably only grown in size as of late.
The Turkish forward has really struggled to make an impact since moving to the Premier League, and he’s shown little of what we all thought he was capable of.
He’s scored a couple of decent goals this year, but that shouldn’t take away from the overarching issue – he’s just not good enough most of the time.
Everton can’t get to where they want to be without a top-tier forward – and Tosun isn’t it.
Theo Walcott will have been hoping that a move to Everton would help restart his faltering career; but it just hasn’t happened like that. He’s had a few great moments, sure, but this season the Englishman just hasn’t been at it.
He was particularly poor over the weekend against Crystal Palace, offering very little down the flanks throughout the fixture.
Walcott is a good finisher, but this season he’s struggled to get into the positions in which he’s normally so deadly, whilst just general inconsistency has been a problem.
With someone like Ademola Lookman on the bench, persisting with Walcott makes little sense.
