Kenwyne Jones looks set to leave the Black Cats for Stoke, with reports suggesting a £9million transfer fee.
Losing out on the signature of Nice forward Loïc Rémy, Tony Pulis has turned his sights to the Trinidad and Tobagan target man. Jones scored just 8 goals last season for Sunderland, often leaving fans frustrated with his below par performances.
The 25-year-old would fit perfectly into the Stoke team, riddled with players suited to play ‘route’ one football. The one dimensional tactics of Pulis will perfectly accomodate the attributes of the striker.
This isn’t to say Kenwyne Jones will not be a loss to Bruce’s side. The forward’s height and strength, if utilised can terrorise the strongest of defenders. The player is also capable of tracking back to help out in defence. He even started as a centre back in a pre-season friendly for Sunderland.
Whilst Jones looks set to leave Wearside, Danny Welbeck looks certain to join Sunderland on loan. Whilst not a like for like replacement for Jones, Welbeck could prove a quality addition to Steve Bruce’s team.
With a possible £9million in the transfer kitty, Sunderland could splash the cash on Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland.
