Newcastle have emerged as hot favourites to bring Ivory Coast international Seydou Doumbia to the Premier League. With Demba Ba’s future at St. James’ Park in doubt, Alan Pardew is considering a move for the CSKA Moscow striker.
Valued at £16 million the Ivorian international will cost Pardew £6 million than the Senegalese contingent of Ba and Pappis Cisse combined. However the Newcastle boss may find that he will need to splash the cash to replace the free scoring Ba.
Doumbia, who bagged 28 goals for CSKA Moscow last season, is seen as one of the hottest goalscorers in Europe, with Napoli and Lazio also rumoured to be interested in the striker.
Newcastle are not the only Premier League side who have courted the Ivorian in recent months. Arsenal were rumoured to be interested in bringing the 24-year-old to the Emirates over the summer.
Whilst the quick and powerful striker, and the goals he can provide, would be a welcomed addition at both English clubs, it is unclear where he would fit in at either Newcastle or Arsenal, with the front lines at both teams looking relatively settled.
Should Ba decide to leave Newcastle in January, or Poldolski and Giroud not prove to be the goalscorers that they were signed to be, then a move for the Ivorian will be on the cards, otherwise Doumbia may end up living the dolce vita in Italy
