The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern want their side’s managerial situation to be sorted sooner, rather than later. Clearly, Antonio Conte’s tenure is slowly building towards its climax, with a departure beginning to look likely regardless of how well the Blues finish the season.
Preparations on securing a replacement, need to be well underway as soon as possible for Chelsea, and our landlord thinks that young Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann could provide exactly what Chelsea need.
Before considering what he would bring, you first have to recognise what Conte brings. An old-school manager, the Italian places hard work and dedication above all else, and often he’ll rely on pre-planned tactics and hard-work to get the wins that his team needs. That was successful last season, but those methods have been markedly less well received this season.
One thing must be made clear, then. Nagelsmann would provide a complete shift from Conte in every single way.
Though, of course, he ensures that his players work hard, from a tactical sense, he couldn’t be more different. He’s part of a new breed of coaches that go into the tiny details to ensure that everything is absolutely perfect. What’s more, he’s never afraid to change things if a game isn’t going his way. Far too often this season, Chelsea have stuck with the same formation and players that have not been good enough in a fixture, and that’s led to poor results. Under Nagelsmann, that wouldn’t happen.
Repetition has been a real problem for Chelsea this season. They haven’t adjusted to the league this season because what they did last year worked so well. Nagelsmann, though, ensures that everything is changing – from his personnel to his training sessions, and that helps to keep players on their toes.
Bringing him in would be a huge risk, but at present, that’s what Chelsea need. The Blues need to look towards the young, in more ways that one, and Nagelsmann could be the perfect man to usher in a new era at Stamford Bridge.
