Although Newcastle recently signed Yoshinori Muto, the Magpies are still in the market for another striker to bolster Rafa Benítez’s attacking options up front.

Following the departure of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Newcastle now have £20 million to spend in the transfer market.

While it’s unclear whether the club will be able to finalise any deals before the end of the transfer window, they have certainly been linked with a few names.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle’s pursuit for Liverpool striker Danny Ings is back on and the club are in interested in bringing the forward to St James’ Park on a season-long loan deal with a view to £15 million move next summer.

To add even more misery to Newcastle’s struggles in the transfer window, in their final pre-season game, the Magpies lost 1-0 to Augsburg further strengthening their need for a new forward.

After going a goal down, Neither Joselu nor Ayoze Perez had much of an impact on the game.

The Breakdown

Since he joined Liverpool, Ings has had a torrid time with injuries and has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool and won't see much game time if he stays at the Merseyside club this

During his time at Burnley, Ings formed a strong partnership with Sam Vokes and scored 21 goals for Sean Dyche during their Championship-winning campaign.

Gayle and Joselu are not Premier League quality, and hopefully, the club can sell them.

Ings would certainly be an upgrade, and although a future £15 million seems slightly expensive given his injury record, he’s still a top quality striker.
