Although the permanent transfer window is now closed, West Ham are apparently already looking towards January for new recruits.

The club brought in Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena, Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Lucas Perez and Ryan Fredericks to try and improve on the team’s poor season last year.

Although the Hammers lost their opening game to Liverpool, over time the team should begin to show signs of improvement.

While you would’ve thought that the nine players brought in would satisfy the club, according to L’Equipe via TEAMtalk, West Ham are tracking Mario Balotelli with a view to making a move in January.

According to the report, Marseille, Torino and Napoli are all also interested in a move for the Italian striker who could be available for a bid close to £10 million.

The Breakdown

The former Liverpool and Manchester City man has been somewhat of an enigma during his football career.

At times he’s shown that he possesses talent worthy of playing for a top Premier League club but at others, he comes across as a spoilt and petulant player that isn’t prepared to work for the team.

In fairness, during his team in Ligue 1 Balotelli has performed to a reasonably high level, scoring 33 goals in 51 games in the league for Nice.

While that is a pretty solid record, West Ham would be making a big mistake signing the striker in January, especially as the club already has Marko Arnautovic and Lucas Perez.

Under Pellegrini, the club is beginning a new era and the last thing they need is a big character who could jeopardise the team.
