Forlan’s agent Borislav Cvijanovic has told Tuttomercatoweb (nothing to do with meerkat’s) that a winter move is possible. He said: “With Atletico Madrid Diego is fine. Could he go to Inter in January? Yes, however he is happy in Spain. Despite Diego being happy at Atletico he likes Inter and Italian football very much.”
Forlan is much sort after since moving to Spain following his disastrous spell at Manchester United. He’s banged in the goals consistently for Villarreal and then Atletico, scoring the winner in last season’s Europa League final against Fulham. He’s one of only two men (alongside Ronaldo) to win the Pichichi trophy twice. Both Pichichi trophy seasons saw him win the European Golden Boot as well (he shared the first one with Thierry Henry).
At thirty one he would only be a short term player for Inter, but an excellent one at that. Personally I can see him making the move. He’s played in England and Spain so the natural move would be to go to Italy before the end of his career.
Whilst having Samuel Eto’o and Diego Milito Inter look pretty short of strikers after that. Goran Pandev and David Suazo have made little impact since joining Nerrazurri. And with superb playmakers such as Esteban Cambiasso and Wesley Sneijder in midfield, Forlan would go goal crazy I’m sure.
I’d like to see Forlan at Inter to see if he can emulate his success in Spain and the last World Cup. Hopefully this isn’t just another agent trying to drum up business so he can buy himself a new house.
